Photowork

Who carries…, 2021

.

I photograph the process of the changing sculptures. The sculptures often disappear even before they have been exhibited. This archiving happens in different ways and on different platforms.

First are the prints of figurative sculptures on mirror aluminium. Since 2018, each print of a figure consists of two contrasting halves, in order to show as many layers and viewpoints as possible: black-and-white/colour, positive/negative/X-Ray. The different halves can be interchanged.
This produces extraordinary portraits. Because they are printed on mirror, you yourself become a part. The mirror print of the sculpture feels very spatial and approximates the original work more than a print on another material would. The mirror reflects present and past.
The reason for this reporting or documenting is to bring my thinking process ‘into the image’, and consequently give me the space to continue. Thinking as you are doing never stops! It is a continuous, intuitive process that is sometimes visible to the public at an exhibition, but which continues in the studio. I also report on my research on Facebook and Instagram. Thanks to social media, the public is always present and I can share whenever I like.
